The KM Youth Fishing Team is an introduction and skill building local fishing team. The Youth Fishing Team is for KM boys and girls in current grade levels 1-6 that want to learn or grow their basic fishing knowledge and abilities. This is a great opportunity for our youth to learn about the basics of fishing, intro to boaters safety, conservation, teamwork, and the great outdoors. Start building and advancing your fishing knowledge, skills, and abilities for your future opportunities to participate in the KM Virtual League (Age 10-18) and KM Student Angler Tournament Traveling League (Grades 9-12)
$75 registration fee covers May 1st, 2021 – October 1st, 2021Registration costs include: Angler T-Shirt, Angler Liability Insurance, seminars, classes, practices, and outdoor fishing experiences.
- Current grade level 1-6, max of 50 participants
- Grade 1-3 parents are strongly encouraged to attend outdoor fishing experience days to assist as safety officers for their child as well as the group. 1 parent background check is included in the registration costs, if both parents want to attend a request of $8 to cover that cost is requested. We welcome any parent interested in assisting with teaching, talk to Coach Warren for more details.
- Participants must have a life jacket that fits, which is mandated to be worn for all outdoor fishing days during the entire event for all anglers. (Insurance requirement is all anglers up to age 14 at all times must wear life jackets)
- Basic fishing poles are requested to be provided by the angler, and the team has access to some gear to assist with providing a safe and fun experience for all anglers.
- All Youth Fishing Team Members are encourage to attend club meetings with the Virtual and Traveling Teams
- There will be a minimum of 2 youth only club meetings
- Basic safety, life jackets, casting, tying knots, making Lindy Rigs, starboard/port side, throwing devices, red/green go between, age of boat driving and Boater safety talks, no wakes, fish ID, etc…
- There will be a minimum of 2 youth outdoor fishing experiences (no boats, shore fishing only)
- Mantorville dam, Whistle Binkies, Chester Woods Park, Foster Arend Park, or similar locations.
- Bait will be provided by the club for these outings within reason
- All meetings and practices will be held at Kasson Mantorville High School unless otherwise noted. (Check team website and Facebook page for any updates to schedule below) Angler is responsible for transportation to and from all meetings, practices, fishing days and activities.
- 6pm-7:30pm Sunday, May 02, 2021 -meeting will be inside- welcome to the team, introductions, team expectations, safety presentation, team goals for the season, knot tying activities
- 6pm-7:30pm Sunday, May 16, 2021 -(bring fishing pole) practice will be outside casting demos, casting practice, common mistakes and how to prevent/ fix issues, casting games and obstacles
- 3pm-6pm Sunday, June 13, 2021 - shore fishing date (body of water TBD)
- 6pm-7:30pm Sunday, June 27, 2021 - indoor practice- recap of fishing day, boaters safety talk, finding places to target fish, fish identification
- 3pm -6pm Saturday, July 10, 2021 - shore fishing date (body of water TBD)
- 6pm -7:30pm Sunday, August 01, 2021 -indoor practice- season recap, goals and ideas for next year, Lindy lure making dules.
